The Location and the Building:
The Provincial Hotel is located on the corner of Emerson Street and Clive Square. This gives a nice westerly aspect providing afternoon sun and views across the gardens.
The Hotel was built in 1932 by builders Holder Bros. at a cost of 6700 pounds. It's a single story reinforced concrete building by the Architects Finch and Westerholm. The original finish was pink plaster with lettering in buff. The dining room notably featured a decorative mural by W E Gunn incorporating Maori motifs.
The Architect Walter Finch had practised in Napier for a long period and had designed the Hawke's Bay Club in 1905 and 1912. In 1932 he became partners with H A Westerholm, who often designed in the Spanish Mission style. A prolific architect until he departed for Australia in 1936. His designs include the Provincial Hotel, the State Cinema, the Shakespeare Inn, Bennetts Building and Sainsbury Logan & Williams
The Venue:
The building contains four - that's right FOUR bars. Only one bar is currently leased, so there is scope to really do something special with these premises.
This building needs someone with imagination and vision - there is a lot of space to create something special here.
