Requirements to operate a Pegasus Franchise
The Rental Car industry is regulated and the operator will require a Rental Car Operator’s Licence and a Certificate of Knowledge before commencing business. All cars must be registered under a class for hire or reward and have a current certificate of fitness.

The Hamilton location

Pegasus Rental Cars Hamilton is currently located on Ohaupo Road, Rukuhia, just minutes from Hamilton City and Hamilton Airport. Hamilton Airport offers flights to/from Australia and most domestic destinations.
The site is approximately 2,800 square metres, fully fenced to 2 metres.
Pegasus operates out of a 700 square metre building comprising the rental counter and reception room, Manager’s office, grooming bay, lunch room/kitchen, toilet and shower. Within the building is also a 1 bedroom apartment with lounge, kitchen, shower room & toilet.

Pegasus Rental Cars Hamilton’s current fleet includes some 24 well-presented vehicles valued at approximately $135,000. Vehicles range from compact cars to 12 seater coaches, 4WD vehicles and trailers. The fleet is included in the leasehold interest purchase price but the vendor will retain the fleet if the purchaser so elects.

About Pegasus Rental Cars

Pegasus Rental Cars was set up in Christchurch in 1989. The directors had seen overseas the use of older vehicles as a cheaper alternative to The Big 3 (Avis, Hertz, Budget). The cost of vehicles here prohibited this type of operation as strict requirements by the MOT on licensing and vehicle condition made the costs unrealistic.
Once importing of secondhand Japanese cars allowed the prices to fall to a realistic level the opportunity was seen to establish a rental operation that catered for people on a budget. Pegasus specifically targeted the incoming budget traveller or backpacker. The existing companies saw Pegasus as a threat, stealing their market share, but Pegasus actually offered another option to people who would otherwise have taken a bus or train. They have more flexibility and at a cost no more than that of public transport.
Pegasus initially imported its own vehicles and still brings in a limited number from Japan. Changing markets have meant it is some times more cost-effective to buy here.
Pegasus depots are now located nationwide.

The need for more cars and hence more capital has led to the expansion of the group through franchising. This allows Pegasus Rental Cars to continue to grow and consolidate, to keep up with the ever increasing demand.
